New to meditation ? Here are top 5 simple tips.

5 Simple Meditation Tips

We have been learning and practicing meditation following teachings from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, a Tibetan teacher and master of the Karma Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. And this is what we would like to shared with you what we have learned from him with combination of our experiences. Check out 5 simple tips we extracted on how to get started.

1. Meditate Everywhere, Anytime

You may want to pick up a perfect time and a quiet place to do meditation as you don’t have distractions. You need those for commitment to yourself. Perhaps, by firmly sticking to the same time everyday it will start to create a habit, so that you are less likely to forget about your practice. Normally, you can start meditation at night time before bed and in early morning. Because it’s much more relaxed and receptive at this time.

However, a simple truth of meditation is that you can do everywhere, and anytime, according to Mingyur Rinpoche.

2. Begin Slowly, Practice Many Times And Increase Your Time As You Get Used To Meditating

Don’t be hard on yourself. Begin it slowly and slowly. You can practice many times in a day after lunch or coffee time for example. You create a good habit and try to get used to it with proper time. Surely, meditation is hard. Sometimes people just try to do too much too soon and find it too difficult or demanding, and then they simply give up. So, start step by step 5 or 10 minutes per practice and increase time as you feel comfortable.

3. Don’t Try To Block Your Current Emotion

It is easier to observe your thoughts passing through the mind than it is to stop them entirely. As we develop our skills as an observer, our thoughts take less of a dominant role and we can become more peaceful.

4. Share or Learn From A Group Or A Class Nearby

Best way to do it is to find a group meditation class so you can share your experiences or get more guidance and tips on your meditation techniques.

5. Try A Self-directed Course

You absolutely need coaching when you’re finding it difficult to just sit by yourself. Then, try a self-directed course. If you would like a simple guided introduction to meditation to practice, A Self-directed Course with Teachings from Mingyur Rinpoche is recommended.

Hopefully top 5 simple meditation tips above can help start it or encourage you to continue meditation and advance it to the next level.
