Cambodia has a lot of popular tourist attractions from historic site Siem Reap Angkor Wat to rich nature. Yet, a hidden nature among tourists is the Cardamom Mountains. The Cardamom Mountains are located in southwestern of Cambodia. It is said to be the last greatest rainforest in Southeast Asia, and as well as an essential home to wildlife.
Covering as much as 4.4 million hectares, the Cardamom Mountains offer plenty of natural resources and places to explore, especially major stunning ecotourism sites such as Chi Phat, Steung Areng, and Osoam.
Osoam Cardamom Community-Based Ecotourism site, on the other hand, is nestled between a crocodile sanctuary and Phnom Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary (the second highest mountain in Cambodia) at the heart of the Cardamom Mountains, recently enchanting conscious nature and digital detox enthusiasts from around the globe.
In mid-2019, I traveled there for my digital detox in nature for several days. And now I share with your more to help you an insight into Osoam Cardamom Mountains.
Osoam Cardamom Community Center
Found by Mr. Lim, a former park ranger for the Ministry of Environment with a strong will to promote ecotourism in Osoam area, Osoam community-based ecotourism site has remarkably gained fame in recent years due to his efforts.
He explains that Osoam community-based ecotourism project plays an important role in developing income sources for locals that encourage sustainable development of the community, and it also prevents illegal hunting and further deforestation of the unique Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia.
Indeed, your support has a great impact on the sustainability of the community. When you volunteer in the community or participate in tours, you help contribute to the local residents as they build the community for a better future. Your experience will directly support local community projects, guides, workers, rangers for law enforcement projects, local food suppliers, and recycling projects.
Osoam Community Pepper
Another initiative that can also benefit the whole community is Osoam Community Pepper. The idea is to promote some of the organic, natural products in the area, providing local growers with a fair and sustainable market price.
Osoam community pepper project allows you to take a small consignment of cardamoms mountains organic pepper back to your home country. This small thing can really help the Osoam community, whilst providing a fantastic gift for your friends and family back home.
Sharing local production with communities all over the world is the great pride and honor for the community. Thus, paying a visit is pretty helpful to spread awareness of their products.

Best time to go on a nature retreat at Osoam Cardamom Mountains
Apparently, the Cardamom Mountains receive a lot of rainfall during the rainy season from May to October. Roads accessing Osoam are in a difficult condition—slippery and muddy. Trekking or adventurous motorbiking in the deep jungles is not recommended.
You may find yourself immersive in nature paradise with a different mood, just relaxing with healing rain, thunder, and lightning when you are in there in the wet season.
However, the perfect time to go on a nature retreat at Osoam is between November and April. The weather is so great that you can get an abundance of experience by exploring the wonderful beauty of untouched nature, hidden waterfalls, rivers, and wildlife.
Important things to pack
You don’t need a lot of stuff. Of course, you just need some gears, boots, long-sleeve shirts, and jeans or pants for an outdoor adventure into the woods. It’s also nice to take mosquito or insect sprays and as well as medicines against fever, malaria, and diarrhea along with you.
